We don't have the traffic to create one big server. We don't have the staff to maintain them either. That's why we want to give our community members an opportunity.

Have you ever wanted to know what it takes to run your own minecraft server? Have you ever wanted your own server where you can play exactly how you want to play, where you don't have to worry about somebody messing up your stuff?

    Well now is your chance!

GamingHeavens is giving away free minecraft servers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A total of 110 minecraft servers will be available initially. Depending on the success, more could be added.

Now you probably think these are some shitty servers right? Well not exactly.

Each server instance will have 1GB of ram with 6GB of disk space. 1GB will be needed for the OS which will leave you with 5GB free for minecraft.

    So who can enter?

Anybody with 25 forum posts and above!

Since supply is limited, there is a monthly post requirement of 20 posts. But don't fret, it's easily doable.

The servers will be up and running in about a month, ready to server your needs. So start posting on the forum to reach the limit, and claim your spot today.

    First come, first serve.

Unfortunately not everything can come for free so there are some caveats to this.

    1. There is not a 100% up time guarantee. We will try to keep them up as much as possible, but no promises.
    2. You will not have full freedom on these servers. Strictly minecraft servers only.
    3. You won't have access to MySQL for any MySQL use plugins nor the ability to stream web content for a google maps file.
    4. Bandwidth is limited, but for the most part it shouldn't be a problem.
    5. We do not have any backups of your data. You are required to backup your data. It will be backed up by a raid setup, but sometimes these things do fail.
    6. We will not manage your minecraft server for you. It's your responsibility to install the plugins, keep everything up to date, ect.
    7. Accounts not maintaining the monthly forum post requirements will not have their data available after their month is up. It will be deleted.
    8. Nobody is exempt from the server requirements {Should we add a donator exemption?}
    9. We are not your tech support. If something breaks on your MC install, it's up to you to fix it. Please don't spam us with emails, Maybe you could post on the forum instead? I'm sure other people have similar issues. If we know the answer we will gladly give any advice we can.

That being said here is what you can do!

    1. Invite anybody you want on the server
    2. Ban anybody you want on the server. Even GH staff if you so wish to.
    3. Use any plugins you want
    4. It's your Minecraft Server, do what you want!

The servers are being set up right now, but we will start rolling them out in May.

So I'm a pretty huge supporter of bitcoins.

    What are they?

This video has some good information.

So how can you get started?

The first step is downloading a wallet.
    https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

    I personally recommend Armory.

    REMEMBER:
Encrypt your private key. This way you don't have to worry about malware stealing your bitcoins Don't forget your password nor loose your wallet. Without your wallet, you will never get your bitcoins again. (You can make paper copies as well btw)

Now you can buy some bitcoins on an exchange. I personally recommend.

The biggest thing to note about bitcoins is they can be divided infinitely. I'd recommend starting out by spending $10 or less. I initally started with $140.

So you are probably are wondering, can I buy things with bitcoins?

Yes. People sell items for bitcions all the time. TigerDirect.com accepts bitcoins for electronics.
http://www.cheapair.com accepts bitcoins as a form of payment for flights

Check out this website for more places. https://spendbitcoins.com/places/

    How much do I have?

About 2.5 Bitcoins with about 1.2 in alternate crypto coins.

    Am I going to sell?

Nope. I'm in it for the long run.

  15. Feinraf liked a post in a topic by Martyj in Community Guidelines changes
So we have decided to relax a little bit on our rules. The following rule changes will be implemented.

Rule 1. Forum posts are now allowed to be "spam". So long as the post is relevant to the topic and not advertising any post will not get strikes against your account. Feel free to now leave one word replies.

The reason for this is that sometimes you may not have much to say about a post other than "Right on!" or "Nice". We don't want to limit community feedback due to this reasoning.

Rule 2: Feel free to post links so long as they are known. Do not use this to advertise!

Rule 10: Some of us are not hardcore players of games. We don't expect you to know all the terms. It's the message behind the words that matters not the words themselves.

Rule 16: We want your feedback on how people are in our community. Let us know who you think should get what position. We're not able to get to know everyone closely. This is where we need you the most.

Rule 12: Although we don't want you to quote someones whole post. This will be downgraded to a recommendation. Please try not to. There are some cases where it is quite useful. Account strikes will no longer be issued for this.

Rule 13: We're downgrading this rule into a recommendation. Sometimes it is nice to have some highlights in your text. Just please remember that other people use different themes that may make it hard to read.

We also no longer want to limit the number of topics a person can create in one day. This may lead to people posting just for post count but overall we think it will help encourage forum discussion.

We hope these changes will encourage more community interactions and provide a better place for you here at GamingHeavens.

The whole "cloud" terminology really irritates me. Companies act like it's this new revolutionary thing. You can get a cloud server, cloud hosting, cloud storage, cloud computing.. and so on. All this means is a server in a data center. The server may be a virtual server for easy management or a dedicated server. This idea of a "cloud" isn't new. Servers in data centers have been around for at minimum a decade.

They use the word cloud because it has better PR. People think nice things when they hear about cloud shit. Compare that to server farm. We store your data in a server farm, vs we store your data in the cloud.

Keep up the amazing work Ossy. Very rarely do people try to implement a desert scene. It's a harder pallet to make look good IMO.
  21. Feinraf liked a post in a topic by Martyj in Xbox One vs PS4
So there has been a lot of posts that have been getting off topic just because of this one issue.

Here let's discuss the Xbox One vs PS4. Which one are you going to get? What are your reasons?

Rules: No flaming an individual person. No name calling as well. A good example would be "fanboy".

    Lastly here is a comparison.

Wow some very competitive pricing from PS4. I think things are leaning heavily toward Sony this generation.

And I just got the notification that Amazon is now allowing pre-orders.
