So if you've watched the behind the scenes video, they reveal they're massive new technology is a freaking action bar.
Sigh.

I heard that this update will actually destroy the current RuneScape, making it an utterly inferior game to WoW or Diablo...
The game will have an action bar.
The game will have roles, like Tank, Damage, Healer.
Those two things, will kill the game for everyone who played RuneScape FOR RuneScape. Adding that to the game, isn't going to pull anyone from a better game like WoW. They're kidding themselves if they think it will.
WoW players hated RuneScape already, and to find out that now RS is copying WoW and every other MMO like it? That'll just harm the reputation even more. There is no upside to this. RuneScape is going head first into the ground.

They're advantage over WoW is their price, obviously it is free to play, but the membership is significantly cheaper than a lot of other MMO's out there.
That being said, nowadays there are a wide range of free MMO's which have significantly better graphics than Runescape and arguably much better gameplay. Such as 'War of the Immortals' 'TERA' 'Runes of Magic'.
I feel with the action bar change, just as Ossy said, it loses it's personal touch, the touch which many of us loved and grew up with through our MMO journey. People like Ossy who play WoW but also play Runescape for its unique style will become much more likely to quit Runescape all together.
